The January 2019 Hemmings Muscle Machines magazine has a very good article about proper insurance and collision repairs. The article features a 1969 Dodge Charger that was sideswiped by an oncoming vehicle. Fortunately, the vehicle owner had previously bumped his Agreed Value coverage by $25K and the car was not deemed a Total Loss. The article talks about coverage for your collector automobile and what it takes to repair collision damage properly. Some collision repair and or restoration shops do not like to write estimates for collision damage. It’s time consuming and there is no computer generated estimating database like there is for modern cars. Then you may have the issue of finding an insurance appraiser that truly knows what it takes to properly repair a classic vehicle. It is very different than your average Honda Civic. At Muscle Car Appraisal, not only do we have the hands on restoration experience, but we have two staff members that have over 75 years of combined experience as Licensed Physical Damage Appraisers. We know what it takes for the body shop to restore the vehicle to pre-accident condition and also what it takes to get the parts and labor (down to every last detail) into a proper estimate. It’s time consuming and labor intensive but it’s what we do. We are Licensed Adjusters as well and can help in claim disputes, Arbitration and Diminished Value Claims. Although we hope you never have the need to contact us because something bad happened to your prized possession, know that we are here to help in any way that we can.
